Breg i Zi lies about 11 km southwest of Lipjan and is a compact settlement divided into neighbourhoods. Pottery, vessels and other material traces have been found at Fusha, while an old well in the hills above the village was reopened and used after the arrival of muhajir families.
The settlement existed before the muhajir arrivals but was reshaped by families expelled from the Sanjak of Niš in 1877–78. This period became an important part of the formation of the modern village.
Before the 1998–99 war it had 91 Albanian houses with around 580 residents and two Serbian houses. On 18 April 1999, 33 houses, 11 auxiliary buildings and the school with its records were shelled or burned. An elderly woman and another resident were killed, and the population was driven from the village.
