The main Kosovo Museum building

This record refers to Kosovo Museum’s monumental main building on Ibrahim Lutfiu Street in central Prishtina. It is separate from the Emin Gjiku residential complex, which houses the Ethnological Museum elsewhere in the old city.

From military building to museum

Kosovo’s Cultural Heritage Database dates the eclectic building to around 1885–86. It was constructed by Austro-Hungarian builders for the Ottoman military and continued to serve military administration until 1975. Its preserved exterior remains an important part of Prishtina’s historic urban ensemble.
