Tanners’ Bridge

The tanners’ bridge south of Gjakova

Tanners’ Bridge, known locally as Ura e Tabakëve, crosses the Erenik in the Brekoc area south of Gjakova. Kosovo’s Cultural Heritage Database records it as a protected monument built by the tanners’ guild and links it with the old route from Gjakova towards southern villages and cities across the Albanian lands.

Seven arches and carved stone

The bridge extends for about 127 metres and rises on seven rounded vaults. Dressed stone forms the structure, while carved ornaments on its faces give it a decorative identity beyond its practical role. Conservation work returned much of its historic form, and it is now used by pedestrians.

See a different side of Gjakova’s craft history

Unlike Ura e Terziut near Bishtazhin, this bridge is directly associated with the tanners and the southern edge of Gjakova. Visit it as a short heritage stop that connects the city’s guild history with the Erenik landscape. Respect the masonry, keep to safe walking surfaces and follow any conservation restrictions.
